Work is about to start on a major new housing and business initiative at Greenlaw, Newton Mearns.

The multi-million pound development will comprise a business park, primary school, hotel, private and social housing, neighbourhood shops and a GP surgery.

The site adjoining Newton Mearns and the M77, will also bring a developer-funded £20m upgrade in the local road network, improving safety, local gas, water, electricity and drainage facilities.

The Greenlaw Consortium – comprising, Elphinstone Land, Stewart Milne Homes, Persimmon Homes and Greenlaw Park Ltd, a joint venture between Elphinstone and RBS– will undertake the 119-acre development.

Greenlaw is also an attractive area for business and we believe the location will attract a lot of interest, and in turn local jobs. Under their Charles Church brand, Persimmon Homes, one of the largest housing companies in the UK, and Scottish-based Stewart Milne Homes will be building a range of houses, including 4- 5 bedroom detached homes, 2-3 bedroom apartments and 4 bedroom town houses.  Arklet Housing Association will be building the affordable rented houses.

The go-ahead for development has been given by East Renfrewshire Council. Contractor Sir Robert McAlpine will be on-site shortly to start work on basic infrastructure. The development will be ready for occupation from 2008.
