ROCCO Business Awards 2007

Rocio Ltd, based in Giffnock has won the prestigious Rocco Award for International Trade at the Awards Dinner at the Normandy Hotel in Renfrew on Friday 9 November 2007.

Rocio Ltd has been a trading company for just over a year but, already, bosses are hoping to bag a top business award. Founded by Rocio Olbes and Hamish Menzies, the firm designs and sells individually hand-crafted bags from sustainable acacia wood. The label is sold in more than 21 countries, earning them a nomination in the International Trade category at this year's Rocco Awards.

Owners Rocio and Hamish have come a long way in a short space of time in their bid to establish their brand from their base in East Renfrewshire. Exclusive stockists around the globe include Mitsukoshi in Japan, Penelope in Italy, Etoile and Tigerlily in Dubai and Liberty plc in London. The duo see their bags not just as accessories but also as "unique works of art, epitomising luxury and glamour".

Each bag is a one off and the design team at Rocio use materials such as leathers, precious stones, Swarovski crystals, pearls and engravings to add the finishing touches. Each handbag takes up to four weeks to complete, from start to finish.

Recently, Rocio showcased their new Audrey and Rameses designs at the prestigious London Fashion Week and the company has also been short-listed for a UK Fashion export award.
