Clarkston Business Improvement District

The Chamber of Commerce commissioned local businessman Gordon Brown of Circuit Break Ltd to drive forward the establishment of the first Business Improvement District in East Renfrewshire. Clarkston was chosen as the location and the movement for BID status for Clarkston is now underway.

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led initiative within a defined geographical area of a town, city, business district or rural area where businesses work together and invest collectively in local improvements to their business environment. The Chamber recognised that the opportunity to invest in improvements and services, over and above those services delivered by the local authority, seemed to make perfect sense in improving the attractiveness of Clarkston as a place to work, shop and invest in. However, whether Clarkston BID will be established is fully dependent upon a vote being carried by a ballot of Clarkston businesses.

A Steering Group has been drawn together, comprised of local business people, and they are now at the stage of consulting fully with all businesses and the general public prior to the ballot, which we expect will be held late in 2009 or spring 2010.
