Commenting on the Prime Minister’s statement to the House of Commons on delaying Parliament’s ‘meaningful vote’ on the Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration, Liz Cameron, Director and Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“Businesses have consistently called for clarity and detail on the UK’s future relationship with the European Union and our international trading partners. Today’s announcement from the Prime Minister will result in further delays for business communities in receiving the clarity that is needed to make business and investment decisions.
“In just over 100 days, on the 29th of March 2019, the UK will leave the European Union and in the event of a no-deal scenario, our research has shown that businesses would look to cut investment and recruitment. Therefore, it is critical that politicians work together to pave a pathway forward, and the efforts to forge that route are now of national importance. All efforts must be stepped up to support businesses through an orderly exit.”
