8 June 2020 – Phase 3 Small Business Grant Fund released

There is a change to the phase 1 and these predominantly are:

  • Business must be a limited company or formal partnership
  • Business must employ via PAYE at least one person other than themselves
  • Must have a formal lease/ rental agreement that demonstrates the fee they pay is inclusive of rates or proportion of
  • Must be able to demonstrate through a business bank account trading and payment of rent and salaries etc.

Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme Update 

New guidance on the above scheme has been published. In a move that could save businesses an extra £300 a month for each employee under the scheme, the government will now cover the employer national insurance and minimum auto-enrolment pension scheme contributions employers pay on the wages they must pay their furloughed staff – on top of the wages covered under the scheme.  Those furloughed can volunteer for the NHS without risking their pay.  Guidance for employers on the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme can be found here whilst guidance for employees can be found here.

Sector Information

The Scottish Government have released guidance for businesses in Scotland on social distancing, including a list sectors and exclusions for closures of all retailers that sell non-essential goods and other non-essential premises due to the COVID-19 outbreak: Click here

The British Retail Consortium have published recommendations which will assist retailers to facilitate the introduction of social distancing in the areas of Warehouse and distribution and also non-food retail. The documents can be found on their website

Coronavirus Business Support Fund Application
